Preserve-Your-Park Program

Preserve Your Park adopters participate in the first training event held in Pennypack Park on October 1, 2000.

The Natural Lands Restoration and Environmental Education Program launched the Preserve Your Park adoption program in March 2000.  The program provides park volunteers with the opportunity to "adopt" a small, manageable portion of a park and keep it healthy.  The Preserve-Your-Park Program helps volunteers become more familiar with the local plants, animals and ecology, learn proper techniques for ecological restoration and meetneighbors and fellow volunteers who share the common bond of natural land preservation.  When enrolling in this program, a group or individual promises to:

  • Participate for a minimum of one year.

  • Volunteer at least twice during the year.

  • Have adequate adult supervision for volunteers under 18 years of age.

  • Notify the park's volunteer coordinator at least two weeks in advance of all scheduled work days.

  • Focus on tasks and priorities specified by the Fairmount Park Commission.

  • Be willing to work with other people.
